Blogger Appreciation Award

Blogger Appreciation Award

So a thing happened this morning. A thing in which I was nominated for the Blogger Appreciation Award by the man, the myth, the retro himself: RetroRedress. Thank you @RetroRedress. I was recently turned on to @RetroRedress‘ page via the Secret Valentine Community Event and found that once there, I couldn’t leave.

As the clever name implies, his blog is all about righting the wrongs from a lifetime of gaming. An ambitious project to be sure, but one well worth the effort considering how many games in my own past I have wrongfully skipped over or have dropped after a painful play experience. His Redress Record currently holds an impressive 23 titles, ranging anywhere from The Flintstones on Sega (referred to as “The Master System” on his page. Love it!) to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Currently, I’m enjoying his excursion through Grand Theft Auto III. One mission at a time, Retro! You’ve got this.

Thank you again, so very very much. As it turns out, the nomination for the Blogger Appreciation Award comes with a set of rules:

The Rules of the Award:

(1) Thank the blogger who nominated you, link back to their site.

(2) Write a paragraph of something positive about yourself.

(3) Nominate and notify as many bloggers as you wish.

(4) Use the award image.

Write a paragraph of something positive about yourself.

I’m a fan of words, whether they are spoken, sung or written. Through thick and thin, words have always provided a sort of solace for me and I’ve spent my entire life dedicating time and energy to paying that companionship back. Friends and family refer to me with titles including Wordsmith and Muelero, which loosely translates into someone who has the gift of gab; an understanding of the rhythm of words. I feel like there’s some grain of truth to the compliments and if nothing else, I’ll admit that I love sharing my thoughts and feelings with the world and that I’ve received positive feedback in return.

Nominate and notify as many bloggers as you wish.

My first nominee is: LaterLevels which is run by the lovely Kim. She was the absolute first member of this community that I had any interaction with and she was kind enough to answer all sorts of annoying questions from a (still) rookie blogger. On top of that, she writes quality posts, hosts fantastic community events like the Question of the Month and has an entire page dedicated to blogging advice, which I frequent. Thank you Kim!

My second nominee is: The Dragon’s Tea Party for her quirky and fun writing style, her well thought out reviews, her obvious love of the community and for the Nuzlocke Challenge Pokemon series, in which she is documenting her adventures through Pokemon Silver but with a twist: Check it out! Thanks to her I downloaded and am now playing through Pokemon Crystal on my 3DS. Thank you to The Dragon’s Tea Party!

My third nominee is: Falcon Game Reviews. Witty eloquence and thoughtfulness, incarnate. But he doesn’t just review games. He also publishes thought provoking pieces like What Makes a Game Worth It’s Price? that offer gamers the chance to look a little deeper into one of their favorite hobbies. I aspire to write pieces as engaging as his, one day.  Thank you to Falcon Games Reviews!

My fourth nominee is: Deconstructing Video Games and Nick the Gent. Talk about engaging and thought provoking. Nick the Gent artfully turns games inside out and asks “what makes you tick?” Nick the Gent’s No Politics in Video Games? was one of the first posts I stumbled on when I began exploring the community; I remember asking myself “why don’t more people look at games this way?”. Slowly but surely, I’m working my way backwards through the rest of his content and invite you to do the same! Thank you to Nick the Gent!

Thanks for reading.

  1. Thank you for the kind words – it’s nice that people understand what I’m trying to do! When I started, I figured people would get confused by my ramblings!

  2. Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying my Nuzlocke series! I was a little unsure about it because it’s quite different to what I usually write so it’s nice to hear you’re enjoying it! Are you doing a Nuzlocke run on Crystal?
I’ve not been nominated for one of these before so this will be fun!

    1. You’re welcome! I like it so much specifically because it’s different from anything else I’ve read =] I’m following the Nuzlocke challenge, using the same set of rules you are. Turns out, letting your starter go (also Totodile) pulls on all the heart strings 😭

      1. I really regret being talked into letting go of my starter. It’s so difficult without that one really good Pokemon to nudge you along. I’ll be interested to see how far you get! Hopefully all the way to the end of course!

      2. No joke. I’m trying to train up for the first gym and it’s been a slow grind 😩. I’ll keep you posted if anything significant happens, and I’ll definitely keep up with your challenge.

  3. Congratulations, and thank you! I’ve got an idea for an unusual little post in response to this which should be published early next month so watch this space…

There’s also another blog party scheduled for 12 March. Come along with a link to your favourite post from your site and get to know some of the other bloggers in the community. 😀

    1. Thank you and you’re welcome! A blog party sounds like a blast and i’ll definitely keep my eyes open for your mystery reply. I can already feel the suspense building!
