I just finished reading through an interesting article on https://www.rpgsite.net/news/6716-the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-becomes-the-second-best-selling-entry-in-the-series that lists which Zelda games have sold the most units, worldwide.
In my mind, I always sort of imagined that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would hold a permanent spot on the top of that list. Let’s call it 90s bias, shall we?
As you can imagine, I was surprised (though not unpleasantly) when I read that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess holds the number one spot with a whopping 9 million units sold during it’s lifetime. 9 million units, where Ocarina of Time came in at about 7.5 million.
Considering the disparity between technologies and general video game popularity of the release dates for the two games, I’ll still count that as a win for Ocarina of Time (you can take a kid out of the 90’s, etc. etc….) 😉.
Let’s not forget Nintendo’s most recent blockbuster though. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is on the up and up. Having already sold more units than Ocarina of Time, could this be the one Zelda game to rule them all?
Let me know what you think and which Zelda game is your favorite, in the comments below.
