Most Anticipated Games 2018 – Part 2

Hey gamers.

Part 2 of this blog series will follow the format of Part 1. I’m going to list the games in order of closest to furthest release dates. Unlike the first post, this list will have a handful of upcoming games with vague release dates like “Spring 2018” or just “2018”. There’s always a big chance that games with uncommitted release dates are in danger of further delays, so keep that in mind.

Truth be told, even games with solid release dates have been subject to delays too. Regardless, 2018 continues to look like an exciting year for gamers.

Release date: February 16th, 2018

The trailer for this game immediately makes me think of a Journey style game with an Ori and The Blind Forest setting. Placed in a beautifully rendered environment, you play as a cub who is tasked with healing the forest of light and fighting away the shadows. The cub interacts with it’s surroundings through various motions, chirps and sounds and can climb, hop, run or fly it’s way through this living landscape.

Extinction

Play it on: PS4, PC, Xbox One
Release date: March 31st, 2018

You stand alone, the last Sentinel, before an army of beasts hellbent on the total annihilation and Extinction of human kind. Did I mention that army has 150 foot ogres?

In order to combat this menace, you will have to hone the skills passed down to you by previous Sentinels, along with a small arsenal of tools, parkour that would make Ezio Auditore jealous and a sword meant specifically for chopping up baddies, regardless of their size.

The game will feature a story campaign, horde style modes for the bloodthirsty and new daily challenges.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Play it on: PS4, Xbox One
Release date: October 26th, 2018

Rockstar Games just announced the official release date for Red Dead Redemption 2 and has apologized for the continued delay. Originally thought to be releasing sometime in Spring 2018 and now set to come out October 26th, 2018, the push back is a bit disappointing. Still, Rockstar Games is a quality studio and if a few more months means an even better sequel-prequel to one of my favorite games, then so be it.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll play through a story line that precedes events of the first game. The new game will still bring cattle russtlin’, train robbing, hunting, lassoing and plenty more of that rough and tumble feel that fans have come to love. Rockstar has promised that there will be even more to do though; a wild west that invites you to be bad.

After the major success of GTA: V Online, could we expect something similar under the high-noon sun?

**As of the writing of this article, all the below games do not have release dates besides a vague 2018 stamp. I will update these as they become available.**

Crackdown 3

Play it on: Xbox One
Release date: Spring 2018

Fight crime as an overpowered super agent in an open world setting that begs to be blown up, torn down and stomped all over. The game has been pushed back, as developers are aiming to deliver on promises of 4k quality graphics.

Days Gone

Play it on: PS4
Release date: 2018

Open world, rugged and grizzled protagonist, zombie killing and a motorcycle. Despite how many opportunities I’ve had in recent years to play through games that offer similar features, I find that i’m pretty excited for this game. Sometimes a guy just wants to sit back and kill some zombies.

Praey for the Gods

Play it on: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Release date: 2018

In No Matter Studios’ Praey for the Gods, winter has come and it won’t go away. The game looks like it’ll combine heavy survival elements with Monster Hunter/Shadow of the Colossus style boss fights as you battle not only the environment, but your own Gods for the answers you seek.

Anthem

Release date: 2018

How to feel about Anthem? After a rough 2017 for EA (see Star Wars: Battlefront II), i’m not sure. I have been hyped for their games in the past, only to be a special kind of hurt on release. This project strikes me as EA and BioWare’s call to arms to Destiny and while I do enjoy a good BioWare game, I still can’t shake a feeling of apprehension about this announcement.

I’ve skirted the Destiny train altogether, after having played the first game in both alpha, beta and for a month on release and finding the whole thing a bit boring. That being said, I’ll admit that I’m excited for a better version of what I wanted that to be. My feelings toward Destiny are for another post though. Here’s to hoping that I’m pleasantly surprised with Anthem.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

Release date: 2018

My Spidey Senses are tingling.

Developed by Insomniac Games, this new clean look for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is just what the doctor ordered. I haven’t been this excited for a Spider-Man anything since Spider-Man 2, played on the GameCube.

I am very much looking forward to a 2018 release date when this game will be swinging into stores.

It may be a stretch to hope we’ll see more of these two titles this year, but they definitely both deserve mention:
